Low-Income Water Assistance Program
Our friends at Pitt's Office of Veteran's Services shared with us some information about the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program through Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.
Crisis grants are available for past-due water bills, termination of water/wastewater services, and danger of having water/wastewater services terminated. Visit https://www.dhs.pa.gov/Services/Assistance/Pages/LIHWAP.aspx for more information.
A Message from Pat
Dear Osher Friends,
Where is your cell phone? Is it within arm’s reach? Is it on you? Is it charged?
We feel very strongly about your safety. It only takes a quick turn, a loose rug, or a moment’s distraction to cause a dangerous fall. A friend of mine fell and could not get to her phone and lay with a badly broken ankle for 5 hours. Luckily, I happened to stop by and found her. An Osher member fell in her bathroom and sat there for two days because she couldn’t get up or call. I’m sure all of you can come up with times when you fell, or felt dizzy or were stuck in an awkward position and were alone.
So I implore you to become more aware of these possibilities and take action. Keep your cell phone near or on you. Consider a house purse or small inexpensive pouch so that you can carry your phone with you. Purchase extra chargers so that wherever you sit you can charge your phone, an uncharged phone is useless. Set up calls with friends who will check on you if they haven’t heard from you.
Fall is here, the days are shorter, people are isolating more. These are just little ideas to keep you safe.
Be aware, be prepared, be safe, stay healthy,
Sincerely,
Pat Szczepanski
