Exploring Experience, Integration, Expression—A Virtual Tour of the Work of Artist Norman Klenicki

Speaker: Bridget Keown

Bridget Keown, curator of the virtual exhibition, Experience, Integration, Expression: The Work of Norman Klenicki (http://nkexhibit.com/), will provide a guided virtual tour and facilitate discussion of the artworks and themes they raise. Norman Klenicki is a self-taught artist and the son of Auschwitz survivors. He uses his canvases to memorialize Holocaust victims and to channel the energy and emotions he experiences as a person with bipolar disorder.

The exhibit—created by Pitt’s Center for Bioethics & Health Law as part of its health humanities programming—presents a thematic journey through his life and work. Among the themes revealed are personal and inter-generational trauma, mental health, and what curator Keown describes as making “the unspeakable and the inexplicable accessible through art.”
