June Updates and Schedule Changes - Please Read, COVID Guidance has Changed!

Check Your Email Often for Osher Updates

Check your email each morning between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. or definitely before you leave your house to go to an in-person class. Last minute cancellations and changes happen overnight. You should be in the habit of checking your email frequently. Also, please read our updates and emails from our program. We purposely do not send unnecessary or fluff emails so that we can bring you the most important and timely news pertaining to the program.

COVID-19 Update - Masks Required

The COVID19 Community Level is now High for Allegheny County. In High level, the CDC recommends wearing a mask indoors in public. Consistent with this guidance, masks are required indoors in all Pittsburgh campus facilities until further notice.  

Those members taking in-person classes on campus will need to wear masks until further notice. This is not optional.

Summer Session Updates

The Global Village - Moved to Second Summer Session.  This course will start on Thursday June 30 (10 a.m.-11:50 a.m.). It will remain an in-person course. 

The Soul of Pittsburgh - Moved to Online (Zoom)  (Summer Session 2, Wednesdays 1 p.m.-2:50 p.m.)

Animals in Research - Canceled  (Summer Session 2)

Introduction to Law Enforcement - Canceled  (Summer Session 2) 

Bio-cultural Perspectives on Aging: Lessons from Japan - Canceled  (Summer Session 2)

History of Modern Yoga - Class Canceled (Tuesday, May 31, 2022 canceled). Class will resume Tuesday, June 7 and will meet again on June 14.

Withdrawal Date Extended - Botanic Garden

We have extended the deadline to withdraw from Tour of the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden and get a refund. The new deadline is Friday, June 3 at 3 p.m.

You are an enormous community. We want to honor those who have left us. If you know of members who have died, let us know, and, if we can, we will put it in the OLLI at Pitt Member Update. We will only publish items that have been made public by the family (obituaries) or that have been sent by spouse or sibling so that we know it is permitted. We do not scan the obituaries, so please contact the office if you know of someone who has passed. We apologize if someone is omitted, it would be due to lack of awareness or privacy issues.

Dr. Erica Larson discusses the effects of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and how its presence in the body can increase the chances of contracting tuberculosis (TB). Hear her findings and learn how current research is shaping the future of how both viruses are treated.

About Dr. Erica Larson

Dr. Erica Larson is a postdoctoral associate in the laboratory of Dr. Charles Scanga at the University of Pittsburgh. She studies immunologic defects associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and how it contributes to increased susceptibility to tuberculosis (TB). In addition, she is interested in strategies to improve protection against TB. Prior to her work in the Scanga Lab, Dr. Larson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Toxicology from the University of California, Davis, in 2009 and her doctorate degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Utah in 2018.
